In 776 BC, the first Olympics started in Athens, Greece. The modern Olympics as we know today started in 1896. This year, Paris is hosting the Olympics which started 26th July- August 11, 2024.

My classmates and I in Room 6 have been learning how to make an athlete profile, design a team uniform and design Olympic medals. I decided to make an athlete profile on Regan Ware. He is 29 years old, he competes for Ruby seven’s. He was born in NZ, scored the 100th try for NZ and he won 1 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.

And one more thing we did a drawing of our athlete with no nose no eyes no mouth no fingers no neck and no toes. It was hard at first then we all got used to it and it became a success. The artist we followed was American, Keith Haring.

During this International Language Week, I researched my country, my culture and my language. The reason I love the  Philippines is because I speak Tagalog  and I love the food.

Turtles and tortoises are similar and different at the same time. Turtles and tortoises both lay eggs on land. However When you put a tortoise in a tub full of water he will struggle in the water and could die because of its heavy shell. That is why they live mainly on land while Turtles live mainly in water. Turtles and tortoises live for a decent length of time, however, tortoises can live for 100 to 150 years but turtles can only live for 20 to 30 years. Turtles and Tortoises can’t breathe underwater although turtles can remain underwater for 4 – 7 hours. Tortoises can’t live much longer than a minute underwater. Both tortoises and turtles don’t hear much. 

This week we were making wearable waste outfits from recycled materials. I was nervous at first but then I got used to it. We had two days to finish and everyone had  fun, even me. At first my design was to make a fantasy car. 

Everyday we worked on our creations. I used cardboard, paint, glue, tape and feathers. I had so much fun preparing and finishing my outfit.

On Thursday it was our fashion day and we were all so excited because we had invited all the classes to come and watch us in Room 7. After lunch we had to change into our outfits and meet outside Room 7 so the children couldn’t see us yet.

Everyone came and they cheered really loudly when we walked through Room 7, showing them our outfits. I felt really proud and nervous at the same time. It wasn’t about who’s costume was better, it was about the fun. I loved this week so much.

What is litter and what does litter mean to us? Litter is a little or a lot of rubbish that people throw on the ground without thinking where it will go. So much of our food is wrapped in paper or plastic and when it’s left around it doesn’t look nice or be good for our environment.

Litter and plastic ends up in the sea and animals can eat it and die. We saw a picture of a seagull with plastic inside it. This is very sad. If I controlled everyone on earth I’d make them collect rubbish every day. Did you know that fish eat microplastics (tiny pieces) because overtime plastic breaks down into the size of plankton or krill and they think it is food. Many sea animals like seals and whales eat this!! This cannot be good for them or us. Stop littering!

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is 1.6 mill square kilometers of plastic. If GOD gave me one wish – I’d wish for every piece of plastic to be gone. I think God gave us our world, so actually we should clean it up so all the animals, plants and people can live safely.

Last Thursday Rm 7 & Rm 6 walked for 12 minutes to go sailing. It was long but it was worth it. The Rm 7’s went sailing first & Rm 6 was on land. It was fun but IT WAS SOON TIME FOR THE REAL FUN!  We went in the boat and splashed in the water. I was confused because the water was warm and then I realised it was the sun making it warm.

We played a game. It was fun because  it was about ducks. We had to catch rubber ducks. Franceska and I saved  rubber ducks by turning around and catching them.

After that we went for a swim. I was scared at first but then it was fun.

It was kind of funny because I swallowed some salt water. When we were catching rubber ducks I almost hit my head on the boom! I  was TERRIFIED!

Once we got out of the water I was soaking wet and it was freezing. I wish we could go there every year.  We walked for longer to get back to school because it was up the hill. Everyone was tired except for Paula, Kava and Jaeden.

Today we are in the middle of Lent and my promise is going well. You might be asking what is my promise –  it is to cheer people up when they are sad. I like to smile at people and show them that I like them. I have a big smile. It cheers people up.
